what is orgacom
In the exhibition 'Merger' Orgacom and contemporary art organisation Display* proposed a symbolic 'merger'. Both Orgacom and Display have values, artistic ideals, working methods and habits, people, financiers, publics, institutional positioning, marketing etc. All these 'ingredients' were mixed together and, combined with organisation models that could work in the Prague context, have been reassembled as eight new proto-organizations, all with other priorities and ways of working. The resulting eight new organizations are exhibited in an exhibition in Display Gallery (Prague). During the opening of the exhibition the public of Display and an expert jury (chief editor of Umelec Magazine Jiri Tacek, galerist Jiri Svestka and journalist of Reflex Magazine Peter Wolf) is asked to vote for their favorite out of the proposed proto-organizations. The proto-organization that received the most votes will develop an art project taking into account the priority it represents. Orgacom has asked Scott Rigby, director of art space Basekamp in Philadelphia, as consultant in this project because Orgacom generated the idea for the merger concept together with Scott.
Czech art space Display has developed a solid professional reputation being the only alternative or independent space in Prague that has a coherent international contemporary art program. At the one hand there exists an ambition for Display to become more institutionalized and at the other hand the deeply rooted desire to remain 'alternative'. Display also occasionally shows Prague artists for one day in its own space or for more days at foreign art shows.
